Hollywood Comes to Quepos/Manuel Antonio
The stars came out and we were treated to the lights, camera, action of the world of moviemaking right here in our little town of Quepos. In July the film crew and actors for The Librarian set up at the beach in Manuel Antonio, also shooting scenes in Quepos and the surrounding area. Dos Locos became the best place for watching and even visiting with the crew and meeting some of the actors, while upstairs served as the wardrobe and makeup center. Jaime Peligro Book Store played a big role as many scenes were shot there – Carolyna and Jeff even had a scene of their own at the waterfall at Portasol which we will all look forward to seeing—possibly new stars are born!! Ummar Bikini Store was another local location.
Marcia Gay Harden ( MGH), Oscar & Emmy Award winner, plays the Librarian – her love interest for the movie and leading man is Oscar Jaenada, an award winning actor in his native Spain and who was in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides with Johnny Depp. Also starring is Jenna Ortega who lives in California and plays the role of a Costa Rican school girl, Anna. I spoke with Pheenix A. Wade, outside of Jaime Peligros, who told me he had a part in the movie once the crew moved to the Caribbean but here he was helping with the loading and unloading of equipment. Local woman, Matilda (Mati) Villalobos, also had a small speaking part!
It was great fun talking with Costume Designer Shannon Campbell and Producer Christain Calderón, pictured with our own Benjammin. The Director is Juan Feldman and script/writer Joel Silverman. During their lunch break at Dos Locos, I was able to have a short visit with Marcia and photos with Jenna. MGH enjoyed cooking lessons and meals prepared by local in-house chef Chelsea, who reported that it was a fun group to cook for…….MGH told me how much she enjoyed Casa Las Frutas in Tulemar and she couldn’t get over that the house could be so open and there were no bugs! It seemed the entire crew enjoyed Quepos/Manuel Antonio and their time here. We will be watching for the release of The Librarian so we can see how “we” look on the BIG Screen!
