What’s Shaking at Marina Pez Vela – May-June 2019

SUMMER IS HERE… That feels incredible wrong to say after the hot dry months of March and April just ended, but as the North American Spring melts into Summer time, things here in Quepos, Manuel Antonio, and Marina Pez Vela also evolve into a whole new vibe of family travel, amazing events and activities. One of the beauties of this area is that what was once a definitive “on/off” switch after Semana Santa has visually disappeared. While there are certainly some slower times for tourism, both in the area and here at the marina, there is ALWAYS something going on to enjoy. The transition into our “green” season, while welcomed by virtually everyone for the lushness and cooling trends, is far from break, just a new season to take part in! Here are some of the highlights for May and June here at Marina Pez Vela.

Pelagic Pura Vida Inshore Classic Tournament, May 24 – 26

The enormous success of the Pelagic Rockstar tournament which has become an annual event here at MPV during February, has led to a new incarnation of the Pelagic Tournament Legendary Fun. This year on May 25th there will be a one day Pura Vida Inshore Classic. This tournament is solely focused on the bountiful inshore fishery here with cash and prizes for either the most Roosterfish Release Points (points managed by length of each fish released) as well as a slam division for the combined weight of 3 total fish weighed in at the Marina Pez Vela scale. Weighable fish include Snook, Snapper, Corvina, Tripletail, Amberjack, Sierra Mackerel, Grouper, and Jack Crevasse. There are a host of individual jackpots and is going to be a fun-filled shoot out of some the most enjoyable inshore angling on the planet.

Kids Fishing Derby, May 26

Pelagic is proud to have a fun derby event focus on kids 16 and under. This event is totally FREE and teams participating in the inshore Pura Vida Classic are encouraged to take their families or sponsor kids on the 26th. Hook and hand rules apply and the goal is to get kids out there learning about fishing, the waters of the area, and this fun sport. Each angler will get a medal and there will be special trophies for heaviest gamefish or largest rooster fish.

World Oceans Day, June 8

On Saturday, June 8th, organizations from around the world celebrate World Oceans Day and we are very happy to announce that MPV and FECOP are working together to host an event to clean up the area in front of our beautiful ocean on the Malecon, or boardwalk, between Quepos and Marina Pez Vela. The day will be dedicated both here and globally to raising awareness about the impact of our activities, waste management, and environmental responsibility affect the majestic oceans which surround us. Quepos and Marina Pez Vela are truly connected to the oceans in our social, cultural, and economic existence and Marina Pez Vela, along with FECOP (Federation Costarricense de Pesca), will be leading a clean-up effort to insure that the area which connects the project and our community with the waters of the Pacific Ocean which we are honored to enjoy as our backyard. FATHER’S DAY, June 16

While there is nothing more special than the celebration of our amazing Mothers in Costa Rica, we are giving a heads up and invitation to all of our friends from the area and visiting to come and celebrate Father’s Day here with us at the Marina. While there is no massive event planned at the marina, stay tuned to our Facebook page for special offerings at all of the business here and treat the Fathers to a dinner, sunset, cold beer, or even an ice cream and some hand holding. Trust me, no matter how small the moment, every father loves and cherishes the appreciation.

PAWS ANNUAL FUNDRAISER, June 22

Anyone who lives here already knows, and anyone visiting should take notice. This is an ANIMAL LOVERS community and one of the most amazing community initiatives that has grown over the past decade is our PAWS volunteer group. This amazing team of local friends and neighbors does amazing work for fostering stray dogs and cats, running free spay and neutering programs, helping find homes for abandoned animals or street dogs and cats. In addition to being an amazing organization the annual PAWS fundraising event has become one of the most enjoyable and memorable nights of the year! Do NOT miss out on this year’s PAWS fundraiser at MPV. There will be all kinds of great food, drink, music, raffles, giveaways, donation opportunities and a chance to both share laughs and stories with the community all while supporting an incredibly good cause.
