November kicks off the start of another new fishing season here at Marina Pez Vela and I can’t wait to see what this season has in store for our charter fleet and visiting Anglers from all around the world. 2023 DORADO DERBY
The wait is over!!! Our first tournament of the new season, the 2023 DORADO DERBY is happening this month!! On November 11th & November 18th the Marina Pez Vela will play host to our Dorado Derby & Dorado Derby Dos tournaments. If you would like to take part, get in touch with me or the team at the Marina Pez Vela guest centre asap and we will do our best to find you a boat, which might not be easy as this event has become a sellout the past few years! The Dorado Derby tournament keeps going from strength to strength and is one of the most popular tournaments of the entire year. Prizes for HEAVIEST DORADO, TOP LADY, TOP JUNIOR, TOP 1st TIME ANGLER, plus some fun Jackpots are all on the line. Best of luck to all teams that will be fishing, TEAM PEYTON’S PIRATES & TEAM ISLE OF MAN will be joining us aboard GOOD DAY and we will be out there searching for that 50+ pounder, wish us luck!
OFFSHORE FISHING
Right on time for tournament, the Dorado bite over the past few weeks has been OFF THE HOOK!! Lots & lots of Dorados have been showing in the 15-20lb range providing some excellent action and great dinners for our lucky Anglers! Some boats have been catching 10-20+ Dorado per day when fishing the current breaks 10-20 miles Offshore where the Dorado hang out. There have been some big Bull Dorado mixed in also and the chances of catching a 50+ pounder at this time of year are real. There have been Sailfish in the mix also and expect those numbers to increase as we move into December and January which starts our peak Sailfish season. November/December are two of the best months of the year for Blue Marlin fishing during day trips out of Quepos. Most of our Blue Marlin run in the 150-250lb category but the chance of a larger fish is always there. The Yellowfin Tuna bite has been solid with plenty of Tuna in the 10-50lb range and some larger fish mixed in too. We typically find our Tuna 20-40 miles Offshore whilst the best of the Dorado fishing typically happens closer in around 10-20 miles.
INSHORE FISHING
When the Inshore water clarity is good there will be some good Inshore fishing to be had in the Quepos area. There have been some large 40-50lb Roosterfish showing plus some Snook, Snapper, Jacks and Mackerel. Our Inshore fishery typically improves as November progresses before it peaks December to April during our dry season when the seas are calm, water clarity is best with very little rain and livebait is plentiful Inshore. To target large Roosterfish here head to the rocks and deeper water where you can fish with Lookdown, Bonito, Blue Runner or Goggle Eye Livebaits. If you put the time in here the chance of 30lb plus Roosters are very good and our fleet catches plenty of Roosters in the 50-90lb range each year. To target Snook, head to the rivermouths with sardine livebaits, fishing in shallow water of around 8-20 feet you will be in with a chance of catching one of our revered Pacific Black Snook. We have lots of great Inshore boats available for charter, check out Good Day, Asi O Mas, Fly Catcher, The Bite, Cocodrillo, Idra 2, Sky 2, Mucho Fisho, Mirse Azul, Chloe Frijole, & Isabella. All of these boats provide Inshore charters out of Marina Pez Vela here in Quepos.
