That’s Fishin’ – April 2015
By Sarah Munro
Welcome to the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area. Did you know that this is bar-none one of the richest fishing grounds in the WORLD? And you’re here during the HOTTEST, SEXIEST, MOST TALKED ABOUT TIME OF YEAR!!!
My gosh, I bet you’re thinking what is this girl saying? HOT and SEXY used to describe fishing in the same sentence? Yup I mean it, totally. Let’s just get right into it.
First up, Sexy Patti Wilson of Fort Myers, Florida and her Whopper of a Roosterfish. She out fished the boys that day, brought that big ass fish in all by herself and managed to swill a beer while doing it. Now you tell me, what’s not HOT and SEXY about THAT??!!! What a fish girl! This fish was caught inshore, within 5km south of Marina Pez Vela, with Captain Roy of Aguas Azules Watersports. (See their ad in Quepolandia for contact information; tell them Sarah sent you).
The fishing season here is in FULL SWING, and there’s much more HOT and SEXY coming up. Get ready, because the biggest fishing event in the WORLD is this month, THE OFFSHORE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, hosted by Bonnier Marine Group at Marina Pez Vela, April 11-17th.
It’s an absolutely incredible event, and according to the Offshore World Championship Facebook page there are 68 teams from 28 countries competing for the title of World Champions. Check out some of the photos from last year’s event, and how about the fish count last year? New WORLD RECORD! 2814 overall fish count last year, and look for it to be higher this year with more boats in the water and the records set in last years other local tournaments are getting crushed this year. Fingers crossed and pray to the Fish Gods, because we need more of that kind of EPIC around here…. (I wonder if Batman will show up again this year?)
This gets repetitive every article, but a big ‘ol shout out to Team Tranquilo, who took 2nd place in Leg II of the Los Suenos Signature Triple Crown Series, with a total of 7900 points. They are sitting at 14,000 points for both legs, an unbelievable position to be in going into Leg III the weekend of March 25th. I’m predicting a big win.
So, you obviously shouldn’t have to wonder if the bite is good. You just have to figure out what kind of fish you want to catch; or more so, the experience you want to have. It’s pretty vast out there, the inshore action is unbelievable, jack year round, snook, red snapper, gar, and there are some reefs not too far for dropping some serious line and bringing up some grouper.
Offshore the action is just as heavy, and on average the fish are bigger. Much bigger, and there likely won’t be land in sight. The run to the grounds is on average about an hour, and then trolling the day for the big ones. Not just Marlin and Sailfish either, there’s plenty of Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo, Tuna, and some reefs out there that will test your strength with monsters of another kind! Check out the snapper I got last year at one of my favorite spots!
There it is. HOT and SEXY. So YOU go be HOT and SEXY yourself and book yourself a day of fishing that will change your life. I do advise caution for those of you first-timers headed out to hook your monster. Taking this one off of your bucket list can completely change your life. And may cause a very expensive new addiction. **Which I hereby disclaim any responsibility for.**
My rod misses me, lol, I am going fishing next week with friends and totally looking forward to it. If you’d like some fishing advice, or want to swap fish stories, drop me a line. I’ll be at The Hawg ‘n’ Bill. It’s the ONLY place in town that cooks your catch for FREE. You just pay for drinks. Pass the fish mojo.
Keep your rod hand steady, ready and you’ll get the big one – and tight lines friends, tight lines. Until then, I’m born to fish, and forced to work. Call Sarah direct: 8708 6152 or (2777 5350 for a message).
