KSTR’s Challenge of Growing 94,000 Trees!
By Jennifer Rice
After CR Tree Plantation harvested their teak last April 18, 2016, they donated the land–277 acres (112 hectares) to the organization Kids Saving the Rainforest (KSTR). KSTR is known for its rescue and release of wildlife, but also works to earn its moniker, buying and restoring the rainforest of Costa Rica.
This beautiful rainforest property is in the hills of Parrita, Costa Rica and will reconnect the corridor on 3 sides when finished reforesting.
KSTR met with the Costa Rican Government (FONOFIFO) to plant 30,000 native trees on the newly acquired land. The organization will create a nursery on the property and subsequently plant 40,000 native seeds.
Jennifer Rice, PhD, President of KSTR stated “This is a win-win situation as Bryant Wangard Sr, the owner of CR Tree Plantation, wanted his land to be returned to the rainforest, and KSTR has this experience, having planted 7,000 trees in our work so far, and has the goal of saving the rainforest. We are very excited about this project. Once finished planting the 30,000 – 40,000 native trees, we are going to plant 70,000 more!”
Please help KSTR to plant the trees to help save the rainforest and to help Costa Rica to be the first Carbon Neutral country in the world! Contact [email protected] or go onto the site to make a donation; kstr.org
