So much for a quiet and uneventful green season! The environment here at Marina Pez Vela just keeps getting more dynamic and the combination of the summer travel season and the events here at the project, there is never a dull moment. We want to thank everyone who came out to join us in our July 4th celebrations and hope that all of you, locals and visitors alike will stay tuned for our upcoming events and continue to form a part of the community and family at the project. August promises more fun and celebrations and here is an update of some important activities and happenings at the project.
MOTHERS DAY
August 15th is Mothers Day here in Costa Rica so do not wait to make your reservations at any of the restaurants here at Marina Pez Vela. There is no more beautiful setting in which to treat your mother to a special dinner, beautiful environment to celebrate all they have and continue to do for us and space at the Marina is going to go fast. Z Gasto Bar, Runaway Grill, Mercato del Porto, Gabriellas Steak and Seafood, Sunrice and Falafel Bar are all here to make an unforgettable experience for your mothers and of course the decadent Gelateria Amorosi for those with the sweet tooth!
The first rains have come and gone, veranillo de San Juan is upon us, and as always, our Marina team is making sure that the community of Quepos is a part of this project’s daily energy, growth and culture. There is lots to report, so here we go!
Slip Expansion
Our Second phase dock expansion is fully underway at this time and anyone visiting the marina has probably taken notice of the large barge which we have on site. This is not a new pleasure cruiser, but a working barge which is laying all the pilings which are the base for our new floating docks at the project. As we have outlined in previous Quepolandia editions, the expansion is going to more than double or linear footage of dockage at the project with a total of 91 new slips, which we will be operational in December. This expansion is going to be attracting a lot more investment, tourism and opportunities for our community.
Our thanks to the Bonnier Organization and the Costa Rica Tourism Board (ICT) and the whole Quepos community for once again welcoming the 350 anglers from around the world to last month’s Offshore World Championship. It was an exciting and dynamic event with teams coming in from as far away as Angola and New Zealand. We are proud that Marina Pez Vela and its hard working team was able to bring this great event to Quepos for the 4th straight year.
The high season here at Marina Pez Vela is packed with energy and activities both for the anglers who are flocking to the finest sport fishing waters in the world as well as tourists and locals alike who are seeking unique experiences in the areas most spectacular setting. April will be no exception for the Marina with everything from the nation’s most popular radio show to the world’s most important sport fishing tournament descending on Marina Pez Vela. Here are just some of the highlights of what is to come here in the coming weeks.
Award winning anglers
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO SAMANTHA MUMFORD and the team from Miss Judy who won the Amateur Fishing Club tournament held at Marina Pez Vela last month. With 80 total sailfish released over the short weekend tournament, the team took first place and our local female angler won the award for the top angler in the entire tournament. A huge honor for anyone in the tournament and an inspiration to a growing female angler population here in the area.
80’s Block Party
Leg warmers….. check, acid washed jeans….check, big hair/mullet… check…Duran Duran tapes… check… thats right.. you guessed it..mark your calendars for April 2nd and the 80’s Block Party at Marina Pez Vela. No excuses not to come out and celebrate the best and worst decade in a millennium with live music from the band Ladek. We will have live music, food and drink specials at all our restaurants and a great vibe with horribly dressed friends with big hair.. What’s not to love???? Go watch Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, or the Ghostbusters and find your inspiration for the party!

February was an incredible month at Marina Pez Vela with an endless line up of events including the Quepos Billfish Cup, Costa Rica’s largest Super Bowl party, scholarship events for local schools, a Valentine’s Day Concert and an incredible season of tourists enjoying these amazing facilities. The energy and excitement will continue in March with new stores and services opening, this year’s earliest Easter Week/Semana Santa and the Costa Rica national soccer team back in action.
Outdoor Movie Nights
Our Friday Night Free Movie nights are once again in full swing and are just another way that the Marina is looking to create a public space for our local families, expats and tourist to enjoy the stunning backdrop of our coast in a pleasant environment. Every Friday at 7 p.m., come and join us under the stars on our giant 30 foot screen, grab a pizza, some popcorn and an ice cream and enjoy!

Happy 2016 from the entire team and family here at Marina Pez Vela (MPV). It is such a tremendous honor for the team here at MPV to be able to share the amazing public space with the community of Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Your support of the project, the signature restaurants & shops, and the events our team works to create are what makes this project and our community great and unique here in Costa Rica.
Quepos Billfish Cup:
MPV is hosting our signature billfishing tournament this February 3-6th. We expect our largest angler and boat count in the history of the tournament and will be welcoming teams from around the country and the U.S. to compete this Quepos classic tournament. The tournament is a qualifier for the Offshore World Championship, another enormously important event we will be hosting later this year.
