The fish are jumping and so will be Marina Pez Vela this December. Movie Night Under the Stars is back and has moved to Wednesday nights. The annual Bright Lights Boat Parade will be held December 7th this year on the Malecón instead of inside the marina. What a great way to kick off the holiday season for the entire family. Quepos and Marina Pez Vela will be rocking in the New Year with live performances and fireworks lighting up the sky overhead at midnight. Great time for all to feel the Pura Vida this country has to offer and welcome in the New Year.

November 2019 coverBienvenidos…Welcome to the Rain Forest—can’t say the name did not warn you. It will probably rain a little while you are here, but don’t let that stop your adventure. Thanks to the rain Manuel Antonio National Park is in full bloom attracting frogs, hummingbirds, and butterflies of every color. We would like to thank Paul Gerace for this month’s cover. It is also baby season here in the jungle so look closely as a lot of monkeys and sloths are carrying their young on their backs. Whale season has been fantastic this year so get to Marina Pez Vela (Sunset Tours) and book a tour to get out there and experience these incredible animals up close. The Marina is also kicking off the fishing season with the 2nd Annual Dorado Derby Tournament on November 16th. This tournament is open to all so get your team ready to compete for top prize and enjoy great sport fishing and all the festivities. September/October coverBienvenidos…Welcome to the rain forest, green season has arrived. So enjoy the peace of it and all the lushness it provides. Our mornings are normally beautiful and the rain comes later in the day, so get moving early and enjoy your adventures, maybe have an afternoon nap (guilt-free in the rain). Our restaurants and tour companies are in full swing to make your stay here an unforgettable one. Without the crowds and with cooler weather much more enjoyable. We recommend calling ahead to our fine restaurants beforehand because some will be closing briefly for a quick vacation for themselves and their staff. Being from the US I always enjoy this time of year. I look forward to start of the NFL season. You can catch all the action at Casino Kamuk in Quepos or Sanchos and Jolly Roger on the hill. 

Marina Pez Vela offers outstanding restaurants, tours, great shopping, and most importantly this time of year, underground parking and shuttle service. September and October are some of the best months for whale watching here in Manuel Antonio so make sure to book your tour with them and enjoy the spectacular humpback whales frolicking just offshore. October 31 is Halloween so start thinking of a costume and get ready for fright night in the jungle. Marina Pez Vela will be having their annual Halloween Bash complete with trick or treating for the kids and a haunted house. Always a great time for the entire family.

Costa Rica will be celebrating their 197th year of Independence on September 15th. Quepos will be having its annual parade in traditional dress, floats, and marching bands. So if you are in the area come celebrate with a country that truly appreciates their Independence…Viva Costa Rica!!!

Whether you are exploring our many National Parks, fishing for a record Marlin, trying one of the many adventure tours, or just chillin’ at the beach, this is the place to Do It. Remember this is your vacation get out there and Enjoy It. We want to wish everyone a wonderful Mother’s and Father’s Day. May/June brings the beginning of green season and turtle season. April should bring a little rain finally to help cool things down a little and provide some incredible sunsets. So get to one of our many great restaurants such Burû on the beach, Agua Azul or Ronny’s Place on the hill, or Mira Olas or Marina Pez Vela in Quepos for spectacular sunset views and delicious cocktails and food.

Marina Pez Vela will be in full swing this April They are holding an Art Exhibition for World Art Day April 13-14. They will be hosting back to back Epic fishing tournaments MPV Open, April 25-27. Followed by the Offshore World Championships, April 29-May 3, with teams from all over the world competing for the World Championship. Don’t forget Movie Night Under the Stars a great night for the entire family and it’s FREE.

The Earth is an incredibly complex and vibrant ecosystem. Where living organisms interact with each other and their environment to create the ideal conditions for Life. Earth Day is April 21. So in the words of Bob Marley, “Let’s get together and feel alright”.

Be careful this time of year the rip tides can be strong and sudden. If caught in one swim parallel to shore till out of it. Not into the current, and don’t forget the SUNBLOCK.

The 9th Annual Envision Festival is underway in Uvita (Feb. 28- March 3). A lot is happening here in March as the action continues. Marina Pez Vela is hosting the 8th Annual Quepos Billfish Cup (March 15-17) Always a great time. Kicking off the Happiness is the 2nd Annual Eco Beer Fest (same concept just better) at Fuego Brew Co. in Dominical on February 2nd. Followed by more Happiness with the Super Bowl LIII on the 3rd. Jolly Roger (MA) will be throwing a Tailgate party in the parking lot of Byblos Casino. Marina Pez Vela will be rocking the docks with the game on the BIG screen. Also on the big screen is Movie night under the stars a fantastic Friday night for the entire family and it’s free.

Manuel Antonio National Park is in full bloom which attracts frogs, hummingbirds, and butterflies. The Humpback whales and their calves are still here so get to Marina Pez Vela for many options to view them, as well as world class sport fishing. The Marina will also be hosting the first Fishing Tournament of the season open to all ages. The Dorado Open will be held Nov 17 so get out and enjoy all the festivities. Don’t forget the 7th Annual Quepos Open Tennis Tournament being held November 3-4 with finals on Novemember 10-11 at the Tennis Club Quepos. Our rivers are also flowing so check out Quepoa Expeditions or Tucanes Tours for some thrilling rafting.

Today’s Tears Bring Tomorrow’s Rain

We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own. Staff writer Os passed away from a long hard fight with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Os starting writing for us in November 2011 and instantly become part of our family. He always had a smile and something nice to say, even at his worst. He is already deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Elizabeth and his family. It’s going to rain…

Whether you are exploring our many National parks, fishing for a record Marlin, enjoying our spectacular beaches or many exhilarating tours. This is the place to DO IT. After a day of adventure don’t forget to pamper yourself with massage or Reiki. Maybe even a private chef to prepare your meals. Remember it is your vacation. You deserve it.

May/June is the beginning of green season and the turtle season. Happy Mother’s Day and Father’s Day to all. World Oceans Day is June 8th so while enjoying the beach make a habit of bringing something in which to collect some trash and leave the beach better than when you arrived.

June also kicks off World Cup Soccer. Costa Rica’s national team will be traveling to Russia to defend their remarkable performance from Brazil in 2014. I have never ever seen a whole country come together in such a celebration of true pride and joy. Catch all the action and celebrations at Jolly Roger and Sancho’s on the mountain, Double Hook at the marina, or Fuego in Dominical.  So get out and be part of history as Costa Rica goes all the way in 2018.
